Outdoor Education/Duke of Edinburgh

Outdoor Education

We understand that being outdoors is a fantastic way for young people to improve their health, well-being and learning. It sets them on a pathway to happy, healthy and environmentally sustainable lifestyles.

All our young people have outdoor education timetabled weekly.

We utilise green areas on our school sites as well as green spaces and facilities in our local community.

Duke of Edinburgh

Our students at the secondary site have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme as part of our curriculum offer. All Key Stage 4 and 5 students have the opportunity to complete a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels. When these are completed, it leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The DofE is a life-changing experience. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers. The DofE is many things to many people, supporting generations to successfully navigate adult life.

Any young person aged 14+, can do a DofE programme – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

Through a DofE programme, young people have fun, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life, such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and university and job applications. Top employers recognise the work-ready skills award holders bring to their business.
