Our curriculum is broad, balanced and sequenced to support learners from Key Stage Two through to Key Stage Five.
All students at Edison Pace School have a full-time education offer that is personalised, engaging and encompasses a purposeful and ambitious curriculum.
We believe the word ‘curriculum’ is to be interpreted in its widest meaning. It is every planned learning experience the students have as a member of our school community, both learnt formally within a lesson, and informally outside the classroom, embedded throughout the whole school day.
It includes the extensive offer of planned activities that we organise to promote learning, personal growth and development. Teachers, instructors and support staff structure these experiences to ensure the maximum positive effect on the attainment, progress and personal development of all our students.
The curriculum consists of activities designed or encouraged within the school’s organisational framework to promote the intellectual, personal, social, physical, therapeutic and cultural development of students.
It includes the formal programme of lessons and the informal programme of our extensive range of enrichment activities. The curriculum is robustly designed to ensure that students gain experiences in the following areas of learning:
- Linguistic (English): with an emphasis on communication integrated throughout the curriculum.
- Mathematical: Numeracy, with an emphasis on functional and experiential learning.
- Scientific: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, theoretical concepts and practical experiments.
- Technological: Digital competence and safety.
- Human and Social: PSHE, Citizenship, RSE, RE, Life Skills, Careers, Geography and History.
- Physical: P.E. Duke of Edinburgh.
- Aesthetic and Creative: Art, Music, Design Technology
- Therapeutic: Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Music Therapy, Psychotherapy and Sensory Circuits. Alongside the taught curriculum, students in all key stages engage in a range of experiences to develop their social and emotional skills.
Our curriculum enables all the students at Edison Pace School to make a positive contribution to the advancement of British society.
Students leave our school to engage in further meaningful study or employment. They will be community-spirited, respectful, law-abiding young adults in full support of democracy and individual liberty.
We offer a flexible curriculum providing both choice and challenge, focused on developing emotional literacy, core subject knowledge and offering a wide range of accredited outcomes.
We have a strong focus on the social and emotional aspects of learning. Opportunities are absorbing, rewarding, and effectively differentiated with diverse teaching styles. The curriculum is delivered by qualified, skilled, empathetic and experienced staff operating in a warm, safe, nurturing and state-of-the-art learning environment.
