Admissions

All of our young people must have an EHCP. We approach every child with empathy, recognising the unique challenges of trauma, SEMH, ASD, ADHD and ACEs, as well as other diverse needs.

We are aware that the majority of young people at Edison Pace School have experienced disruption to their learning.

Many have not attended formal education with consistency for a considerable time. Students often arrive as reluctant readers and writers, as well as experiencing emotional barriers to learning.

We engage our young people in an ambitious curriculum that inspires them to achieve. Teaching at Edison Pace School is ambitious for all. We cover all aspects of the National Curriculum. We also have a strong focus on the social and emotional aspects of learning, and opportunities are absorbing, rewarding, and effectively differentiated with diverse teaching styles.

We strive to be the difference. Every child matters, every story is respected, and every future is full of possibility.

Process

Referrals are made to us directly by the Local Authority

Upon receipt of the consultation, the Senior Leadership Team will review the information received.

If we believe we could be the right setting, work takes place to meet the young person and their parents/carers. This can include visits to existing settings and invitations to come to Edison Pace School. We have a dedicated Referrals and Transition Officer, who will work with families throughout the consultation, providing consistency and developing relationships.

Following that process, a formal decision will be made as to whether we believe we can be the difference, and whether to offer a place at the school. This decision is then shared directly with the Local Authority.

Local Authorities are encouraged to contact us on:

Transition

Whilst awaiting a start date and for all other arrangements

Our Referrals and Transition Officer will remain in contact with families while waiting for a start date.

As we progress towards a start date, we work with the local authority and parents/carers to agree on a transition plan. This will pay particular attention to:

  • The child’s educational history
  • A child’s specific needs and anxieties around returning to school
  • What is most likely to make the placement succeed
  • An admissions pack to be signed by parents/carers

Our  Referrals and Transition Officer will then bring out the admission pack and support with completion, as well as provide a uniform for the young person.

For some young people, it may be appropriate to start full-time. However, for others, there may be a need for a staged induction plan. This will be developed in partnership with the family and the SENCo, with success for the young person at the centre. This process will be reviewed every 2 weeks with a key focus on progressing a child to full-time education as quickly as possible.
